Conform by Ariel Sullivan is the first in a dystopian romance trilogy set centuries after a catastrophic war that decimated humanity, in a towering city ruled by the elite Illum who monitor citizens' genes, health, and procreation via mandatory contracts, treating women primarily as vessels in a rigid hierarchy of Elites, Minors, and Majors. Lifelong outcast Emeline, marked by heterochromia and toiling to sort ancient art for destruction, feels alienated from this conformist society until she's unexpectedly chosen as Mate by enigmatic Illum member Collin, plunging her into the high-stakes Courting ritual where surveillance and elimination loom. Drawn to Collin's mix of coldness and protection yet tempted by Hal, a resistance leader sharing her love for forbidden art, Emeline uncovers the regime's brutal underbelly and a brewing rebellion, forcing her to navigate love triangles, secrets, and moral dilemmas about agency, class divides, and violent revolution.

Jamie’s review

I've only read Conform so far and…. I'm confused. I know we are supposed to be questioning everything at the end of book 1. Like is Hal a bad guy? Is Collin a good guy? Who is the Reaper? I LOVE that I am questioning the two MMC's and their intentions. But I am also confused by the twists at the end. I don't think they were explained very well. I even re-read the last couple chapters just to be sure I didn't miss something that would make it more clear.

Emeline is our FMC and she's a "minor" meaning she has a minor visual defect (her eyes are two different colors) so she lives on the surface. The Elite live up in the clouds along with the Illum while the "majors" live beneath the surface in the underground tunnels. Excellent world building and power dynamics. CHEFS KISS.

I loved so much about this book and devoured it so fast. But Emeline acts very immature for someone being in her mid-twenties and the big reveals at the end just left me asking ….huh?…..??? But I cannot WAIT to see what happens in this Emeline, Hal, Collin love triangle! The storyline is perfection, love the betrayals and not knowing who we can trust.

And also, I would love more of Gregory and Nora's story, which is heartbreaking 💔 AND more of Violet and Rose's story. I loved all the side characters so much! GIVE ME MORE!

Erica’s review

Woweeeee! Did this live up to the hype! Just finished Conform, book 1 out of which is supposedly going to be an EIGHT book series, 😮‍💨 and talk about some twists. Some I could see coming (and you probably will too), but I will also say that Ariel is TRICKSYYYYYY! Without spoiling what I think is going on - go reread that Epilogue, friends. REALLY read it. It is done SO clever. SO friggen clever.

Jamie read it about 2 weeks before I did so I knew she was confused by the ending so I made sure to read it VERY slow. I'm glad I did and it's why this didn't get 5 stars for me. It was just kind of a monologue info dump at the very end and I kind of hate that in books. I like action and things actually happening, not just a monologue of things being explained, but that's neither here nor there right now.

LOVED the constant questioning of who is good or bad, who's side are we actually on, who are we freaking rooting for here? So fun! At one point I took a note for myself that said: for a book where really nothing is going on, I cannot put it down! Its wild. The writing is incredible, the characters are so well done, all flawed but lovable (except Vincent and Edward and most of the Elite…they can rot), and I LOVED how Handsmaid's Tales coded this was. What an emotional rollercoaster that was - excellent!!
