Lightlark is a YA romantasy set on a magical island that appears once every hundred years to host the Centennial, a deadly competition where the rulers of six cursed realms must gather and one of them is prophesied to die so the curses can be broken. Isla Crown, the secretly powerless young ruler of the Wildling realm—whose people are cursed to destroy anyone they fall in love with—enters the games pretending to wield dangerous magic while juggling fragile alliances with the brooding Sunling king Oro and the enigmatic Nightshade ruler Grim, both of whom may hold the key to saving her people. As trials, political schemes, and a forbidden love triangle unfold, Isla must decide how far she is willing to lie, betray, and sacrifice to win, while this summary leaves the twists about the curses, the villain, and her final choices unspoiled.

Note: Oro and Grim are audiobook novellas

Jamie’s review

Disclaimer - I have only read Lightlark, Nightbane, and Skyshade as of now. These are SO FUN. Definitely more YA/New Adult so there's very little 🌶️ but the plot was plotting. So many great twists I did not see coming! I love a good plot twist!

By the end of Skyshade I was sick of the love triangle between Isla, Grim, and Oro. It's done really well but we OBVIOUSLY want the morally gray shadow daddy to win out over the blonde haired green flag. So let's move on from the tormented heart divided bit. We can only take so much!

I will say I enjoyed Lightlark and Nightbane more, I would rate those a 4/5 stars. Skyshade brought down the series rating to 3.5/5 for me. Hoping Crowntide brings it back up!
