The A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series by Sarah J. Maas is a romantasy saga set across a wall-divided world of humans and faerie courts in Prythian, beginning with 19-year-old huntress Feyre Archeron killing a wolf faerie to feed her impoverished family, leading to her abduction by High Fae lord Tamlin under ancient treaty laws. Thrust into a lavish yet cursed Spring Court, Feyre navigates romance, deadly trials under the mountain, and a transformative bargain with enigmatic Night Court lord Rhysand, awakening her powers amid threats from evil queens and ancient evils. Subsequent books expand to her sisters Nesta and Elain's arcs, High Lord politics, blood wars with Hybern, Illyrian warrior bonds, and cosmic battles involving the Cauldron, blending enemies-to-lovers passion, found family dynamics, betrayal, and themes of self-discovery and defiance across Prythian's seven courts.

Jamie’s review

At this point, if you haven’t heard enough about ACOTAR, how??? It’s God Tier for a reason. More romance than fantasy, in my opinion, and definitely levels up on the smut as the books go on. But the characters are so rich and wide-ranging, you can’t help but to miss them when you put the books down (especially Rhysand, our OG shadow daddy).

I had some issues with the plot and some of the characters were entirely ignored, but as Erica said to me “we aren’t reading these for the plot, Jamie” 🙂 so just settle in, look past the eye-roll moments and enjoy this healthy dose of escapism. You’ll know by the end of this series if you enjoy spice or not, as it does get pretty spicy by the end.

Erica’s review

5 Star. God Tier. No Notes. Okay – I kid. I never shut up – so I obviously have notes. This was my gateway drug into the Romantasy world as a true adult woman. (Read: I read Twilight in my 20’s and nothing similar since.) I know people have trouble with book 1 in this series but NOT MEEEEE – I was hooked almost instantly. You can’t fool me SJM, I knew it was alllll too good to be true and the twists were a’ comin’.

And boy was I right! I was so obsessed with it all – the different Courts and beautiful world building, the character dynamics, the witty banter, the Bat Boys…. THE. BAT. BOYS. I’m a huge Nesta fan, (a bitch loves a bitch) and I definitely re-read ACOSF – IYKYK 😉 I will say, I know a general consensus is that book 1 is slow, but once you push through – 9/10 chance you’ll be hooked!

I honestly cannot wait to re-read the entire series when we get word on the book 6 release *hopefully* soon! If you are looking for a place to begin your Romantasy journey – I always recommend this series first. Thank me later. Or your partner can thank me. 😉
