Not in Love is a contemporary STEM workplace romance about Rue Siebert, a biotech engineer whose carefully controlled life and “no feelings, no repeats” dating rule implode when she has a one‑night stand with Eli Killgore, only to discover the next day that he is leading a hostile takeover of the start‑up where she works and that belongs to one of her closest friends. Forced onto opposite sides of a high‑stakes corporate battle over groundbreaking food‑science technology, Rue and Eli agree to keep their intense chemistry confined to a secret, no‑strings affair with an expiration date, even as shared trauma, late‑night lab sessions, and Eli’s steady care chip away at Rue’s emotional walls. The story blends forbidden romance, boardroom maneuvering, and themes of class, food insecurity, and found family, while leaving the resolution of the business fight and their relationship unspoiled.

Not in Love————————————
I'm normally a huge Ali Hazelwood fan but this one just didn't do it for me. It wasn't as funny and banter-y as her other books, which made the characters not as likable.
Rue is a biotech engineer working at a food science company that is about to be purchased by an evil corporation, and she just so happens to have hooked up with one of the partners of said evil corporation. Oopsies!!!
The background stories of growing up with food insecurities was actually very insightful. And the glimpse into patent law was interesting. But I was just kind of bored throughout the whole book. Bummer.
Problematic Summer Romance———————-
I liked Eli's sister Maya and her story so much more. Maya has always had a huge crush on Eli's best friend Conor, even though he is 15 years older. Age gaps don't bother me, I am usually reading 500 year old age gaps with faeries so 15 years is nothing 😆
I didn't love the time hopping back and forth but I did love their dynamic and banter. As always, Ali writes the BEST banter. Hands down. I was also SO excited for the cameo of Scarlett and Lukas from Deep End! I'm such a nerd 🤓 This one is a good time and you don't need to read Not In Love first to enjoy it.
