The Crescent City series is a modern fantasy saga by Sarah J. Maas centered on Bryce Quinlan, a half-human, half-Fae woman in Crescent City, who seeks justice for her murdered friends after becoming involved with the fallen angel Hunt Athalar. Their investigation into the murders exposes a larger conspiracy involving a dark power threatening their world of Midgard and its magical inhabitants, including angels, Fae, and shifters. The series blends magic and advanced technology within its urban fantasy setting, as Bryce and Hunt unravel mysteries that connect to the planet’s ancient history and a powerful, enigmatic ruling class known as the Asteri.

Jamie’s review

Safe to say this was my least favorite series in the Maasverse (SJM books). I could never get attached to Bryce and Hunt and the storylines felt overly complicated and detailed. I did enjoy all the side characters, especially Rhun and Fitzroy the Otter. Started out strong with book one, I was SHOOK and out to solve a murder, but by the end, I was skim reading and completely lost. Definitely a bummer for me and not sure I will be reading book 4.

Erica’s review

Urban Fantasy? Meh. Hunt Athalar? Yes. Sometimes a green flag cinnamon roll MMC irritates me – but he didn’t…not sure why. Maybe because he was really grumpy too? Bryce (the FMC) also irritated me but in the way I often irritate myself – like, why am I being a bitch for no reason? So, I easily related to her. I basically read this only because it’s in the SJM-verse but likely wouldn’t have otherwise.

Apparently it’s an unfinished series – which honestly blows my mind because it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, so we all have that going for us at least. AND – there is an ACOTAR cameo in book 3 which I was thrilled for and did love this crossover. Word on the smutty Romantasy street is that there will be more crossover in the Maasverse future so it’s probably worth it to just read this series too. Will you be annoyed? Probably. Will you also be at least a little entertained? Also probably. Luckily it’s only 3 books….
