The Fire & Metal duology by Rachel Schneider begins with Metal Slinger, a romantasy set in a sea-bound world where Brynn, a guard raised among the exiled Alaha, accidentally triggers a conflict that could shatter a fragile peace between her people and the land-dwelling Kenta. As Brynn is pulled into secrets about magic, identity, and the enemies she thought she understood, the series leans into high tension, adventure, and a slow-burn relationship built on mistrust, duty, and undeniable chemistry.

METAL SLINGER

Well, I devoured this book in less than 24 hours. I want to tell you to read it because misery loves company but I also DON'T want to tell you to read it because your jaw will be on the floor along with mine after the INSANE twist and cliffhanger at the end. Book 2 cannot get here soon enough.

Kudos to Rachel Schneider because NO ONE saw that twist coming. If someone says they did, they are a liar. It seems impossible given the POV throughout the book, but here we are. Bewildered. Aghast. Shook.

Love love love the slow burn, love the writing, love the characters. GIVE ME BOOK 2 🙏🏼

Some cliffhangers leave you in suspense but you are somewhat appeased with the reveal. You can peacefully wait for the next book. Metal Slinger is not like that. You will have 100 questions and you will be BIG MAD that there was no foreshadowing and no answers. And you will be BIG SAD for Acker. #justiceforacker

LIGHT WIELDER

I actually loved that this takes place 4 years after the mind bending ending of Metal Slinger. You get lots of flashbacks of all the tension and yearning over the last 4 years. And we all love tension and yearning!

This one didn't have the insane plot twists and I liked that the plot wasn't overly complicated, but it did leave some unanswered questions and lacked some context.

I read this very fast, I couldn't put it down so it definitely entertains. But I do wish some of the parts weren't glazed over and I wish some of the twists were more twisty but all in all, I really liked it and it sets up nicely for the next interconnected duology.

I can't wait for Messer to be the MMC!

METAL SLINGER

My text to Jamie after I finished: Holy shit. Metal Slinger. 👏👏👏 Fucking incredible.

This. Freaking. Book. I kept putting it lower on my TBR bc I get so exhausted trying to remember all of these unfinished series…but I will not forget this one. I rarely want a book to be longer but I could have read and read and read some more! I loved how tricky it was and how I felt I was getting insider info even from the very start. Rachel knows what she's doing by giving us some dirt right away. She's a tricky tricky lady! I knew, KNEW a crazy cliffhanger was coming and was trying to look for it the entire time and was still jaw on the floor, shooketh at the end. Plus its mass level emotional damage - my favorite thing.

Gotta give it to all Booktok and Bookstagram - I read this book almost TWO years after it came out and have watched a LOT of reviews and no one spilled the beans on what the actual plot twist is. I'm super impressed it wasn't ruined because if it gets ruined - you would truly read the book completely different. So, for those of you that don't mind to spoil things for yourself - don't do it for Metal Slinger! Be shocked like the rest of us!

LIGHT WIELDER

I don't know….I like it, not loved. And if I'm being honest, Metal Slinger REALLY only got a 5⭐️ from me because of the insane ending. The middle of that one even bored me a bit. Light Wielder read a lot more like the middle of Metal Slinger. Except Acker was pretty much the worst. I don't know why he became a little bitch in book 2, but little bitch he was. It bugged me. The miscommunication was done poorly and I didn't love their relationship like I did in Metal Slinger. I was still entertained and I do love the story overall and I'm THRILLED Messer will be the MMC in the next duology - he's giving full Carrion Swift and I'm readyyyy!

This is still a MUST duology because you just have to read Metal Slinger but I wish Light Wielder gave us more….
