People We Meet on Vacation is a novel by Emily Henry about Poppy and Alex, best friends who have been taking an annual summer vacation for a decade, until a trip to Croatia two years ago shattered their friendship. Now, in their early thirties and feeling stuck, Poppy reaches out to Alex, and they agree to one last vacation in Palm Springs to mend their bond and figure out what went wrong. The story is told through dual timelines, alternating between their present-day trip and flashbacks to their past summers, exploring their contrasting personalities and the slow-burn, friends-to-lovers dynamic that leads them to confront their unspoken romantic feelings.

Jamie’s review

Cute. I appreciate that Emily Henry goes deep with her character development. You REALLY get to know Alex and Poppy. It’s a sweet story, if not therapeutic in some ways. Kind of slow with lots of build up for the inevitable. When I saw it was being made into a Netflix movie, I wanted to read it and I’m glad I did! It’s just a little bore snore for my liking. But if you need a sweet little stress-free potato chip book, this one is a good one.
