Into Darkness by Navessa Allen is a dark romance series beginning with Lights Out, featuring trauma nurse Aly Cappellucci, whose online obsession with masked thirst trap videos leads to a drunken comment inviting her favorite, the mysterious "Faceless Man" (Josh Hammond), to break into her home and enact her wildest fantasies. What starts as playful boundary-pushing between the chaotic Aly and the secretive, tattooed Josh—haunted by his serial killer father's legacy—escalates into intense, consensual kink-filled encounters blending humor, spice, and obsession. As their unhinged chemistry deepens, real danger emerges from a sinister stalker with darker motives, shifting Josh from predator to fierce protector and testing how far they'll go amid trauma, banter, and high-stakes thrills.

LIGHTS OUT——————————————

I.LOVED.this.book. It's like a dark, spicy, hilarious romcom. I laughed so much but it was also so suspenseful and creepy! Josh and Aly were some of my favorite main characters ever!

I've heard the audiobook is amazing, for those that prefer that.

I don't really have any notes. It was so much fun.

CAUGHT UP——————————————

Since I was so obsessed with Lights Out, I had set the bar pretty high for Caught up. Sadly, I was let down. All the things I loved about Josh and Aly's story were missing in Junior and Lauren's story. The tension, the suspense, the build up… all absent.

It tried to be a mafia book? But I wished there was MORE mafia in the plot, that would have been fun. It just felt half baked. And I am all for empowered sex workers and cam girls, do your thing ladies, but the book was WAY too focused on the details of this career. I just couldn't get invested.

The 🌶️ is defffffffinitely there. If you are looking for an "erotica" book (as my Mom calls them 😂) then this is one for you! But I wanted more from this book.

LIGHTS OUT——————————————

Okay - so Lights Out - freaking loved. LOVED. Still think about it often. Love running into Josh and Aly fan art (and Fred - IYKYK) even a full year later. It had a lot of twists that kept me turning the pages so damn fast and even though I usually don't love a dark romance - this was a perfect amount. It had great banter, a lot of twisty back stories tying things together. I was actually shocked to hear it was going to be a series because it was such an awesome standalone! I feel like you can definitely read just Lights Out and be fine. Check your triggers but it's spicy AF and dark in the best way possible. Lights Out was a 5 Star read for me but I lowered the overall series rating - as you'll see below….

CAUGHT UP——————————————

Now - let's move right along to Caught Up. I really wasn't too excited or cared enough about the next characters - which this one follows Aly's cousin Nic aka Junior and his love interest. I'm torn about this one. It wasn't nearly as good (IMO) as Lights Out but I can breeze through Navessa's writing so that did help. This book is more of a "the spice IS the plot" type of situation and I was okay with that once I realized that's what was going on, because she definitely wrote the shit out of the spice. But, the plot truly held on for dear life and I almost started to get sick of the spice (can't believe I just said that…..😂). The mystery/thriller aspect that I loved in Lights Out was really missing in Caught Up but I DID love the mafia element, the obsessive "touch her and die" trope (into it), and the appearances of Josh and Aly again. But, sadly this fell short from Lights Out, which has brought my overall series rating from a 5 to a 4. Will I read Game On? Yup! I'm actually intrigued by Tyler's story, I just hope it ramps back up a bit and adds more mystery/thriller aspects that Lights Out had.
