Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir follows Ryland Grace, a former scientist turned schoolteacher, who awakens from an induced coma aboard a spaceship light-years from Earth with amnesia and two dead crewmates, gradually piecing together his desperate solo mission to reverse a cosmic catastrophe dimming the Sun and threatening humanity with an ice age. As Grace investigates an unaffected nearby star system, he encounters an extraordinary alien ally facing the same peril, forging an unlikely interspecies partnership through scientific ingenuity, overcoming communication barriers, and tackling high-stakes experiments amid dwindling resources and personal sacrifices. The narrative alternates between Grace's present-day struggles and flashbacks revealing the global crisis, innovative breakthroughs, and ethical dilemmas that propelled the Hail Mary project, blending hard science, humor, and themes of cooperation without disclosing the mission's ultimate success or Grace's fate.

Jamie’s review

Dear god, I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did. I just wasn't expecting all the FEELS! The suspense and the hope and my heart bursts for these unlikely allies trying to save the galaxy.

I'm not huge into Sci-Fi and this was a little heavy on the "sci" for me but the author has a way of breaking down literal rocket science into digestible sentences. I feel smarter having read this.

The ending is not what I expected but I am pleasantly surprised. It's good good good 😉

I'm bummed it's over. I really loved these characters.
