Funny Story by Emily Henry centers on Daphne Vincent, a reserved children's librarian who relocates to a small Michigan town for her fiancé Peter, only for him to abruptly leave her for his childhood best friend Petra right before their wedding. Homeless and heartbroken, Daphne moves in with Miles Nowak, Petra's equally jilted ex-boyfriend, an outgoing artist whose chaotic energy contrasts her practicality, sparking an unlikely roommate bond over shared resentment. When their exes invite them to the wedding, the duo hatches a plan to fake a romance via social media photos from local adventures, but as Miles introduces Daphne to the town's hidden charms and they confront personal insecurities, their pretense evolves into genuine affection and self-discovery without revealing romantic outcomes.

Jamie’s review

This was my first Emily Henry book! A very cute, easy breezy beach read type of book. Or as some say, a “potato chip book.” Honestly, it was okay. Pretty predictable and a little slow for my liking.

I did not love the FMC Daphne until the very end. I could not understand what the MMC Miles saw in her, she was a self described lazy complainer and social pariah. FUN! But she redeems herself by the end. Kind of. Miles is MUCH more likable than she is.

I don’t know, I think I need more going on in a story line. It fell a little flat for me. I heard they are doing a screen adaptation though and I will 100% watch it.
