Ali Hazelwood’s Bride is a paranormal romance where Misery Lark, a vampire, is forced into a political marriage with Lowe Moreland, a werewolf Alpha, to cement peace between their species. Misery, who grew up in the human world and is estranged from her powerful father, agrees to the union not just for politics but also to investigate the disappearance of her best friend, Serena. The story explores their forced alliance, uncovering hidden agendas and betrayals as they navigate their hostile worlds and a fragile peace.

Mate is a paranormal romance by Ali Hazelwood that follows Serena Paris, the first human-were hybrid, who becomes a target for political machinations after revealing her existence to the world. To protect her, Alpha werewolf Koen Alexander takes her under his wing, but their forced proximity and forced alliance ignite a fiery passion despite their plans to go their separate ways after ensuring her safety. As a sequel to Bride, the book is set in the same universe but can be read as a standalone story.

Jamie’s review

BRIDE—————————————-

Wow wow wow. I was KNOT prepared. I had heard you either love or hate this book so I was skeptical. When I tell you I could not focus on anything else… I wish it was longer, I wish there was 15 books. The writing is SO good and SO funny. I just loved Misery, Ana, and Lowe. ❤️

Werewolves ✔️ Vampires ✔️ Forced proximity ✔️ Enemies to lovers ✔️ Solved mystery ✔️ Found family ✔️ SPICE ✔️

The weird thing that I was knot prepared for was a no for me… I didn’t like it. Also, Lowe was too green flag and I can’t stand the whole “I know what’s best for you so I’ll be the self righteous martyr for eternity” bit. Neither qualm deterred me from obsessively loving this book. Cannot wait for book 2.

Yessssss that feeling when a book is exactly as good as you hoped it would be! I am such an Ali Hazelwood fangirl. This is the sequel to Bride and follows Misery's best friend Serena.

I FLEW through this. The banter, the spice, the "asshole to everyone but her" trope, it's all top tier and I loved it so much.

Serena is an anomaly, she's half human, half werewolf (sorry I'm such a weird, Mom 😆) and that puts a target on her back in her wolf eat wolf world. Koen is the pack leader of the Northwest pack (shoutout PNW 🌲) and tasked with protecting her.

I've been reading lots of wolf books lately, I guess I'm a wolf girl now 🐺

Erica’s review

BRIDE—————————————-

Jamie read this right before me and made me nervous about the smut portion, but I could care less about the semi strange, (and KNOT necessary – yes, pun intended), werewolf sex details because I absolutely loved everything else. I was originally excited that it was a stand alone but then was so so sad that it was a stand alone. This book will have you truly laughing out loud with the witty banter and hilarious FMC Misery, obsessed with the broody hotness of Lowe and rooting for it all to work out for them.

I will say, I wish it wasn’t asssss slow of a burn but that’s just me. I know it can be a hard balance with a stand alone…(Mate is the 2nd book but will follow different characters). And, I was slightly annoyed with the 1st steamy scene. Like, if I’m waiting until 70% of the book being over – can we not be rushed? IYKYK…trying to not spoil it. But honestly – we LOVE Ali over at BasicBookish and Bride is always one of our top recs from the both of us. It’s delish.

MATE——————————————-

ALI DELIVERS AGAIN! I was a teeny bit scared because I just loved Bride so so much but ugh…so good I'm still thinking about it 2 days later and wishing there was more. Write more in this series PLEASE?! I truly didn't think I'd love these characters as much and came in with a cynical vibe. WRONG. Oh. So. Wrong. This had me even more in the freaking feels than Bride. That knot (pun also intended) in my stomach so many times forbidden love trope it had me in the trenches with them and I loved it every step of the way!

There was a little plot piece I didn't love and didn't think was necessary and kind of messy but meh…really who cares when the rest of the book is so delishhhhh! If you like Bride - don't skip Mate. If you haven't read either - immediately put on your TBR!
