This series was the gateway drug for me for all things romantasy, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. I did a re-read when Onyx Storm came out and became obsessed all over again! People have mixed feelings but my personal opinion is the books just keep getting better. What’s not to love? Fast-paced plot, lovable characters, twisty, turny, vibey reading! Rebecca Yarros can write the shit out of an MMC because I would die for Xaden Riorson. I’d turn venin. I’d burn it all down.

I agree with other reviewers, though, that I needed a cigarette after Onyx Storm and I don’t even smoke. I just loved this wildly stressful yet painfully addictive journey. I hope we don’t have to wait forever for books 4 and 5 because I am on the edge of my seat. I am SAT. We knew there wouldn’t be resolutions in book 3 but it’s still vexing. I am terrible vexed.

Should be required reading for anyone interested in romantasy. Take PTO. Lose sleep. Join me. Please.

So much love for this series, yet, I’m annoyed?? Sounds about right for me…..

I chose Fourth Wing for my local Book Club pick after MY gateway drug series ACOTAR had me needing another vein hit. And, I was hooked immediately! I loved everything….mostly. Is Violet constantly whining and driving me nuts? Yep! But, is Xaden the hottest Shadow Daddy of all of our dreams? Also YES – so it works for me. I also do love all of the side characters and the dragons – of COURSE the freaking dragons. When people say they don’t like Romantasy – oh, so you hated Game of Thrones? GTFO – no you didn’t! It’s THIS minus the incest! It was a 5 star series for me until book 3 (Onyx Storm) – the island hopping became really repetitive and dragged which is why I went down to a 4. But, TBD if I go back to a 5 when the series is all said and done. I also have a LOT to say about the length of time between these later books but I’ll save that rant for another day. 😉

Overall, I’m still very in love and invested in The Empyrean series and truly can’t wait for book 4 – hopefully before I turn old and gray Rebecca…..
