The Knockemout series by Lucy Score, starting with Things We Never Got Over, is a small‑town contemporary romance that follows Naomi Witt, a runaway bride who races to the chaotic town of Knockemout, Virginia, to help her estranged, trouble‑making twin sister and instead ends up stranded with an 11‑year‑old niece she never knew existed. With no car, money, or plan, Naomi is reluctantly helped by Knox Morgan, a grumpy, bearded local barber who hates drama and resents the upheaval she brings but can’t quite walk away from her or the vulnerable girl now depending on her. As Naomi tries to rebuild her life, protect her niece, and fit into a town that initially mistakes her for her twin, slow‑burn chemistry, community ties, and lurking dangers force her and Knox to confront past hurts and decide whether they are willing to risk their hard‑won stability for a messy, real chance at love, while later books in the series follow other couples from the same tight‑knit town.

Jamie’s review
Disclaimer: I have only read the first book in this series, Things We Never Got Over. It was a fun palette cleanser read, a modern day small town mystery romcom. I actually found myself very invested in Knox and Naomi and the mystery surrounding Naomi’s sister Tina’s disappearance. I’m always a sucker for a good mystery. It’s my true crime podcast era coming through 😉 I also liked how the characters delve into how past trauma has affected their relationships, the author does it in a way that doesn’t feel like a therapy session, but same result. Well done!

Erica’s review
Disclaimer: I have only read the first book in this series, Things We Never Got Over.
Alrighty…plain and simple – loved. I read this book almost in one sitting. I was HOOKED. The mystery part of this book was MUAH and a freaking page turner. Then you add in hot characters, banter, fun side characters, small town drama…then, THEN some good spice…SOLD! There was a part, (I won’t spoil it), that literally had me sick to my stomach from PTSD of dating emotionally unavailable assholes in the past, but I still loved it! Because, like Jamie always says, I’m a masochist. Deep down I know we’re likely going to get a HEA so that keeps me going with these books anyway and I know the heartbreak and turmoil is short-lived.
I didn’t continue on with the series because I wasn’t into the side characters the next book features and I had heard it wasn’t as good as the first one – and nobody has time for that! Our TBRs are too long! I just don’t have time to reread Zodiac Academy once a month 😂 AND books I don’t really like so…
Conclusion – definitely pick up Things We Never Got Over if you like a fast-paced contemporary romance and read all 3 if you don’t have an 800 mile-long TBR or romance > romantasy.
