Tales of Weeping Hollow is a gothic, small‑town paranormal romance duology set in the eerie coastal town of Weeping Hollow, where old curses, family secrets, and forbidden love span lifetimes. The first book, Hollow Heathens, follows Fallon Grimaldi as she returns to the strange hometown she was taken from as a baby to care for her last living relative, only to find herself drawn to Julian Blackwell, one of the feared “Hollow Heathens” and heir to a family name steeped in dark legends and superstition. The second, Bone Island, shifts focus to Adora Sullivan and Stone—a girl haunted by a growing darkness and a mysterious call to the sea, and a masked outcast from the 1800s—whose intertwined stories reveal more of the town’s ancient curse, witchcraft, and star‑crossed fates, while leaving the ultimate resolutions of the romances and the curse itself unspoiled.

Jamie’s review

HOLLOW HEATHENS ———————————————

This was another spooky season read I read in 2024! After Erica and I buddy read this one, she says "are we goth now??" 🖤💀

I really loved this haunting, emotional, Romeo and Juliet like story of Fallon and Julian. The town of Weeping Hollow lures you in and you become invested in all the covens and curses and mystery surrounding the Hollow Heathens.

Downsides for me were that I never fully understood what powers Julian had because he seemed completely powerless 99% of the time and the Heathen mask curse was kind of lame and the rules were unclear. Just half of the face has to be covered or people will die? Ok…. I would have more questions than Fallon seemed to have regarding this life or death accessory piece of cloth 🤔

The pacing felt a little off and rushed at the end. I wanted more of a redemption tour 🔪 but this book was hard to put down and I really enjoyed it.

BONE ISLAND ———————————————————

This interconnected standalone follows Adora and Stone and their story in Weeping Hollow and picks up right where Hollow Heathens left off. Adora is not as likable as Fallon, she's kind of giving some Nesta vibes 😆

I did enjoy this one but it was unnecessarily long and Adora irritated me a few too many times. The curse never made sense to me (again) and the magical solution to breaking the curse didn't feel like an AHA moment. I just found myself asking "huh?" the entire time. Being confused after 680 pages is rather annoying. BUT, it's a sweet story and had 🌶️ and some well written character development. I'm not mad about reading it.

HOLLOW HEATHENS ———————————————

I only read this out of the 2 interconnected standalones. I still might read Bone Island one day - let's see where this wild ride takes me. This is a perfect spooky season read. Just envision a small foggy creepy town and super hot masked dudes. I mean what more do you need? It definitely left us with a lot of questions and things were vague but I don't think I really cared overall. I still really liked it!
