I don't know why this series isn't more popular. It's under-hyped in my very strong and usually correct opinion. It reminded me of Throne of Glass but with more 🌶️ and less battle scenes.

Does Slade/King Rot have a gross magical power where he rots people and things? Yes. Does Auren have gold skin ribbons that weird you out? Also, yes. Do we love both these characters? YES WE DO!

I was also fully invested in the side characters and stories. Just a fun, fast paced read. I really enjoy Raven Kennedy's writing style. A piece of my heart died a little though when her new publisher screwed up the printing and there are 30 pages missing at the end of book 5. 💔

There are parts of the ending I didn't love and some loose ends I wish were tied up. However, I had the BEST time reading this series and I HIGHLY recommend it.

Will you be a slave for Slade (insert Britney Spears background music here)? YES! A completed series with it all? ✅ This series is very loved for a reason, but like Jamie mentions - severely underrated and not spoken about enough! It draws you in right away with a harem scene (so yes, the spice is there!), but keeps you seriously entertained for the entire 6 books. I truly loved this series so much and get so excited when I see another Book Bestie pick it up. I’m embarrassed to say (or maybe IDGAF?) that I have zero knowledge of the King Midas story - public school must have failed me somewhere - but I have a feeling this is one of the best (and hottest) retellings ever.

It has the perfect amount of everything us Romantasy lovers LOVE: world building, characters you’ll remember forever, side characters you root for hard and HOPE get full books written about, twists you don’t see a’ comin’, character you despise but then also secretly root for….it’s just, sigh…the best. I’m jealous of you if you get to read this for the 1st time!
