THE FIRST BOOK IN A SERIES FULL OF ADDICTIVE ROMANCE AND POLITICAL INTRIGUE BY BESTSELLING AUTHOR STACIA STARK

This slow burn, enemies-to-lovers is perfect for romantasy readers who love Raven Kennedy, Amanda Bouchet, and Carissa Broadbent

---------

Just hours after humans are born, the gods take what little power we have. In return, they protect our borders from the vicious, merciless fae.

The humans who manage to keep their power are known as the corrupt.
And they are put to death.

When my forbidden power is discovered, I’m forced to flee my tiny village and the life I adore.

To survive, I make a desperate bargain with the mercenary. A dark and brooding man.
Whose face I have been seeing in my dreams . . .

It’s agreed that I’ll help him into the city. And he’ll help me learn to wield the strange, dark power I’ve always kept hidden.

The power that may just be the key to my survival.

But the ruthless mercenary is hiding secrets of his own. Secrets that threaten the safety of everyone I love.

Secrets that could tear this kingdom – and perhaps even this world – apart . . .

Tropes/Themes:

1. Enemies-to-lovers
2. Forced proximity
3. Magic

Jamie’s review

Stacia Stark is now an auto-buy author for me. I just love her! I was obsessed with We Who Will Die so I was excited to dive into her prior series, Kingdom of Lies!

I LOVED Lorian and Prisca, the MMC and FMC. Love love love. And his nickname for her is maybe my favorite nickname in all of romantasy: wildcat 🫶🏼🧎🏼‍♀️🎯

I think if this were 3 books, it would be a perfect 5 stars. It did start to drag a bit for me in books 3&4. I never had a BAD time, but I got worn down with all the battle plans.

I think this is a VERY underrated series and everyone should put it on their TBR! It has everything we love in romantasy books! Highly recommend.

Erica’s review

Another great completed 4-booker! I also feel like this one flies under the radar a lot. It has Legends of Thezmarr vibes to it but it's also different. It follows the playbook for a lot of the things we have come to expect so I do think it was a bit on the predictable side but I loved all of the characters - Prisca is a great FMC and Lorian is the perfect, broody, hot MMC. And his mercenary crew is just the best. There weren't any mind blowing twist that had me rolling off the bed but I still really enjoyed this Kingdom of Lies ride!
