The Stonewater Kingdom by Rachel Gillig is a gothic romantasy series launching with The Knight and the Moth, centered on Sybil Delling—known only as "Six"—a foundling Diviner at the eerie Aisling Cathedral in the kingdom of Traum, where she and her sister Diviners endure ritual drownings in magical springs to receive visions from six divine entities called the Omens. As their decade of service nears its end, the arrival of the newly crowned King Benedict Castor III and his knights disrupts the cloister's isolation, drawing Six into conflict with the rude, heretical knight Roderick "Rory" Myndacious, whose disbelief challenges her faith. When her fellow Diviners begin vanishing amid whispers of peril beyond the cathedral's walls, Six forges an uneasy alliance with Rory, venturing into a mist-shrouded world of gargoyles, masked faith, and godly manipulations, unraveling truths about her powers, the Omens, and the kingdom's corrupt foundations in a tale of rebellion, devotion, and slow-burn tension.

Jamie’s review

How beautiful is this book cover?? I was excited to start this duology. I love Rachel Gillig's writing. Her Shepherd King duology is one of my favorites from 2024. The Stonewater Kingdom is off to a hot start!

Six is a Diviner, meaning she can see/dream of omens for someone's future. She does a reading for the King and one of his Knights before mysterious disappearances start happening at Aisling's Tor.

The magic system is clever, once again. The FMC is unique. And the twist at the end got me good!

Rory is a likable MMC but the star of the show is the gargoyle. I love him.

Gorgeous, gothic world building, unique storyline, a little slow at times but I am eagerly awaiting book 2!
